Christmas and New Year
For a Christmas bouquet that stays beautiful for a long time, choose flowers and greenery known for their longevity. Certain varieties of roses, carnations, anthuriums, chrysanthemums, cymbidium orchids and hellebores are excellent choices. Pine greenery and eucalyptus also help create a festive, long-lasting arrangement.
Christmas and New Year are special occasions for spending time with friends and family. Giving flowers during the festive season is a wonderful way to thank your hosts or show someone your appreciation. Flowers are also perfect for creating a warm and festive atmosphere in your home or on the Christmas table.
For a Christmas table, a low flower arrangement is usually the best choice, allowing guests to see and talk to each other without obstruction. Red, white, gold, silver and green remain the most popular colours for creating a festive Christmas table decoration.
Place your poinsettia, also known as a Christmas star, in a bright, draught-free location with indirect sunlight and a constant temperature between 15 and 22°C. When the top 2 cm of soil feels dry, water moderately with lukewarm water. Avoid leaving the roots constantly wet, as this can cause root rot.
Poinsettias are mildly toxic to cats and dogs, so it is best to keep them out of reach of pets. Ingestion can make your pet unwell, although severe poisoning is relatively rare. If you are concerned or notice symptoms, contact your veterinarian.
The poinsettia is a subtropical plant that does not tolerate cold or frost well. During the winter months, it is therefore best to keep it indoors. Once temperatures become warm enough, you can potentially move it outside for a few months in a suitable, sheltered spot.
During flowering, it is generally sufficient to water a Christmas cactus once a week. Ideally, use rainwater at room temperature and make sure the roots are not left standing in water. Good drainage helps prevent excess moisture.
A fresh Christmas flower arrangement can easily stay attractive for 3 to 4 weeks. Depending on the variety, the cut flowers generally last around 1 to 2 weeks, while pine branches and other Christmas greenery last much longer. Keep the OASIS floral foam moist, occasionally mist the greenery and place the arrangement in a cool location to extend its life.
When used as a cut flower in a bouquet, an amaryllis can remain beautiful for around 7 to 14 days. Its vase life depends on factors such as its maturity when purchased, room temperature and the amount of light it receives.
When an amaryllis stem is placed in OASIS floral foam, it will generally remain attractive for 7 to 14 days. In some Christmas arrangements, the amaryllis bulb itself is secured directly into the design. In that case, it can take 2 to 6 weeks before the flower starts to open, while the rest of the arrangement gradually dries decoratively.
Yes. After flowering, the amaryllis bulb will have used much of its stored energy to produce its flowers. If you want to keep and reuse it, plant the bulb in a pot with soil so it can gradually replenish its reserves. After a while, you should see new leaves beginning to grow.
